History of Maidstone

Maidstone in mortal terms is historically the county town of kent, but in real terms it is now an industrial town and proberly has the highest concentration of population for a single town in Kent. Situated 35 miles from the center of London, with train and motorway access it is an ideal commuter town and also a center of communication.

Not alot is known of the kindred relevance of Maidstone, it is known to have had at least four true Princes in the last three centuries. The first was Mephisto the Dark Host of Fey, a Kiasyd. He looked after all the lands around North Kent and further until about two hundred years ago there was a dispute and war broke out with the faeries, the faeries were almost victorious managing to defeat Mephisto and sealing him and his army below the Castle Chalk. But Mephisto had left a curse on the area and the fearies dissappeared from the Kent area.

Mephisto was left in his sealed tomb and eventually a new Prince stepped in Prince David but he only claimed his land in the Castle of Chalk whose portal is to the North of Maidstone. Castle Chalk is on another plane of existance. David was happy to have brief encounters with the outside and Castle Chalk became a safe haven for many Ravanos and Malkavians.

In recent years Maidstone was overseen by the Prince of Tonbridge, the Tremere Jacob Angstrom ruled briefly before the Ventrue Paul Lovecraft. Paul Lovecraft ruled with a rod of iron and a foot of steel, it was even roumoured that Paul Lovecraft was in the infamous Leeds United team of the seventies. Lovecraft seperated Maidstone from his fief and handed control to another Ventrue Marcus Harman. Marcus had the enviable position of shaping Maidstone a new fief but with the oversight of Tonbridge. Many Kindred fled to the new Maidstone fief which became a painful point for Lovecraft. Many of his own fief fled to Maidstone's less brutal regieme and thus tensions were high.

For reasons which are not clear a blood hunt was decreed on Paul Lovecraft and Lovecraft fled the country. In his place stepped the Tremere Stefan Seville seen by many as a Puppet Prince. The hostilities continued between the fiefs which were now magnified by the Prince's Clans old war between the Tremere and Ventrue. Because of the bickering the early signs of trouble were ignored or not seen and the Sabbat started an advance. The Prince of Maidstone dissappeared and while Maidstone was in array the Sabbat managed to get a strong holding and the Kindred fled to Tonbridge.

The sabbat ran riot in Maidstone, whilst in Tonbridge the Clans bickered, Tonbridge was not large enough to support the increase in the Kindred population. Talks began of a new Maidstone Prince with the likely candidates seeming to be the Brujah Mac and the Senechal Sleaze. Most forgot that there was no ruling seat as it was still occupied by sabbat.

Skimirshes started and small raiding parties began. Then one fateful day a large raiding party headed by Mac and aided by the Mages struck at the heart of the Sabbat presence. The intel on the site had been wrong, the ambush was reversed and the raiding party was repelled but oly with the loss of Mac, Sinjun, The Tremere Primogen and several others. The survivors say that they had surprised a meeting of Sabbat Kindred only then to be ambushed by superior numbers, the last to see Mac and Sinjun claim they were far out wieghed.

The news was not taken well in Tonbridge, Stefan Seville was turning a blind eye to his fief culling Maidstone refugees, blood was in short supply and gangs were roaming the streets of Tonbridge frightening the mortal populace from leaving their homes.

The Sabbat had been allowed safe passage through Tonbridge by Seville to spare his own fief, this lead to the siege of London and Tunbridge Wells. London was now cut off, the Northern towns of Kent were under siege, the airports cut off and travel to the continent was sealed off. The Sabbat were now free to continue their seige on London. Maidstone and the southern towns had been mere staging points for the London Siege, small raiding parties lead by the Brujah continued their assaults on the Sabbat in Maidstone until a Ravanos by the name of Nikoli declared himself Prince of Maidstone. The raiding parties had done their job and the Ravanos had walked in to a deserted town and declared himself Prince.

To many a Ravanos Prince is distasteful, but to depose a Ravanos Prince is stupid. Clan Ravanos are tricksters, dirty and vengeful. Spill my brothers blood and I will bring the Clan down and make life a merry hell. Trib of the Brujah still mourning the loss of Mac, went with the Ravanos to Maidstone after an off the cufff remark about purchasing the title from the Ravanos which the Ravanos took seriously. After surveying the streets Trib was satisfied that the Sabbat presence was no longer a controlling one and bargained with the Ravanos. Trib bought Nikoli out along with a 'No Ravanos Problem' clause for a small sum and promptly declared himself the Prince after Nikoliu stepped down.

This lead to alot of confusion as a raiding party from Tonbridge had set themselves up in Maidstone Toen Hall and Sleaze had declared herself Prince thinking there was no other contender. She then received a call from Trib declaring himself Prince and that he had obtained it from the previous Prince after he had stepped down. A fight ensued in Maidstone between the two, as Nikoli watched on Prince David of Chalk arrived with forty Fey archers and fired upon the combatants.

It is not clear how or why but Sleaze was running from the fight in fear, Nikoli had turned tail and was running leaving trib to face the hail of stakes arching their way towards him. By some quirk of fate most missed or failed to do serious harm to Trib who managed to flee to an old site which had been declared an Elysisum. From here he contacted the Brujah Clan and called a rant, informing them of his deed and gaining the support of most. Nikoli was located and Prince David explained his actions and pledged support to the Maidstone Prince.
